Well, it’s been a few days since the last blog and we’ve been inundated by a magnificent total of one person excitedly demanding a follow-up.
It’s now almost two weeks since I woke up to a frost covering the vines which border the campsite. The swimming pool, which was frozen on my arrival has now thawed. I keep being told that this is very unusual in this part of the world and to be honest double duvets and six layers wasn’t quite what I had envisaged. Meanwhile Fiona has been regaling me with stories of bright sunshine in Whitley Bay. I was delighted, therefore, to hear that it has been snowing there tonight!
Determined to think positively, I have decided to ignore this latest cold snap. I’m Scottish after all and have lived most of my life in the beautiful but chilly North East of England for goodness sake! So I have decided to focus on the fast-approaching summer, our first summer at Le Poteau. I spent yesterday evening perfecting our homemade lemonade recipe. So I sat last, night sipping chilled lemonade, in front of a roaring log burner while the wind blew a right old hooley outside.
To be honest, I would have preferred a glass of wine, but I’m now confident of avoiding scurvy.
In the lovely hot summers that we get here, we’ll make sure that guests to the gites and our equipped tent have a chilled bottle of lemonade waiting in their fridge to welcome them to Castelnau d’Auzan (and of course, a cold bottle of the delicious local wine). We’ll be offering all guests a cold drink to welcome them to Le Poteau – a moment to refresh, cool off and get into proper holiday mode.
Very excited to discover that The Tour De France is in Gers this year. You will be hearing more when we get precise details of the route.
