Finally, the weather is behaving more like the South of France. It has been a beautiful few days. I’m having to be self disciplined and get on with renovating the interior of the gites.
The evenings in early Spring are fabulous here, the light is soft and warm. The birds sing so beautifully and it appears that there’s a massive and noisy frog orgy going on. The grass is shooting up and I’ve been cutting paths past the vineyard and woods to the pool and down through the dog walking field. As I tow the mower, I’m surrounded with the scent of freshly mown herbs; mint and thyme prevail and I have to keep an eye out for all of the lizards and salamanders which are becoming more and more active.
I keep getting snippets of all the amazing things to do in the area from the people I meet but work comes first – usually! Anyway I thought I might as well let you know what I’ve heard. Hopefully, it will entice you out to see us and explore for yourselves.
Spring is a beautiful season. One of the most popular events at this time of year is in Fourcés (Plus Beau Village) where a stunning flower festival at the end of April welcomes in the warmer months.
Summer is extremely lively. Live music is huge in Gers. In July and August there are Jazz, Latino, Country and Classical music festivals across the departement. Bands and artists get together in towns and villages and it creates a truly international feel. The Jazz festival in Marciac from 28th July to 15th August is under an hour away and is huge! The line up for 2017 looks pretty impressive. www.jazzinmarciac.com
There are regular markets and food festivals. One of the most popular is the Medieval night market in Montreal Du Gers which is just 10 minutes from Le Poteau.
The culture of the area is closely intertwined with Northern Spain so for those of you who struggle to choose between France and Spain, its a win win. Partying in the streets is pretty common!
Readying the campsite and gites is now well under way, getting ready for our opening on 29th April. We can’t wait to welcome you to Le Poteau.
